Spartanburg Amateur Radio Club Features

News:

Comrade Randy, KI4CQO, has been appointed Antenna/Tower Project Coordinator by SPARC's vice president and tower climbing & Safety instructor, Robert WD6ELK . Randy will be responsible for accepting all work requests from club members and coordinating these activities with the project committee. Only equipment used in the pursuit of the amateur radio hobby will be considered. It is expected that most work will be performed within the general coverage area of the Spartanburg Amateur Radio Two Meter Repeater, with an output frequency of 147.315 +. Forms are available from Randy that must be completed by the station owner, so that work can be requested, planned, and implemented within a reasonable time frame. Everyone on the "A Team", which includes our ground and climbing crews are looking forward to serving our club members in the improvement of their stations.

Anyone who would like to participate with the "A Team" should contact Randy on SPARC's two meter repeater and make their interest known.

More News:

Comrade Randy, KI4CQO recently obtained his general class ticket, and with his first class antenna/tower system and shack recently worked a station in Russia during the week of June 3, 2006. Randy said, "Did I tell you I worked Russia?" By the time Randy mentioned his operating prowess to everyone, even his new golden retriever puppy knew he worked a Russian station. We need to plan a DXpedition to Russia with Randy traveling overseas so that we can contact him and finally receive some QSL cards from that country. If you would like more information about how to work a Russian amateur radio station, please ask Randy.

Two Meter Nets

Please join our weekly net, conducted on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings at 8:30 PM local time, or 30 minutes GMT. We welcome all visiting stations to join us, and extend a hearty southern welcome to all! The frequency is 147.315+. Our net manager is Steve, K4SAW.

Elusive Ham

Ken, NO4D continues to be a mystery as this author has never had the opportunity to meet him. It is believed Ken is really a computer-synthesized voice and not a real person, yet is highly advanced in artificial intelligence. Hmmmm, I wonder if the FCC knows about this?

Scanner Listener?

If you don't have an amateur radio license and have been listening to our nets on your scanner or VHF receiver, we would like to welcome you to join us for our Tuesday night ragchews, 7:00 PM every Tuesday evening at the Red Cross facility, Garner Road in Spartanburg. Come learn about how to earn your own amateur radio license! VE testing is held at this facility on a regular basis, so you don't have to travel very far to take your exam.

Antenna Upgrade

Elsie, KA2CLX has a new beam antenna in the air, thanks to the "A Team" that consisted of Fritz W4NTO, Art KE4EAN, Randy KI4CQO, and Bret N9LPT. Work was completed on Sunday, June 11, 2006 and her antenna is ready for operation.. We are all anxious to hear about her first contact! Elsie is our Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) Coordinator for our club.

Master Judge

Wayne, KF4UUL and his wife are master judges for professional barbecue contests. How about having us over for some award-winning chow? We may never eat at the world famous "Beacon" restaurant again.
